November is National American Diabetes Month, and here at International Sports, Skating & Fun Centre-Cherry Hill, we would like to take a moment to remind you just how important physical activity is to help with or even prevent type one and type two diabetes. Firstly, however, we would like to inform everyone on some diabetes statistics from the American Diabetes Association.
- Nearly 30 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes.
- Another 86 million Americans have prediabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
- The American Diabetes Association estimates that the total national cost of diagnosed diabetes in the United States is $245 billion.

With staggering statistics like these, it is easy to get discouraged. How can we change this trend? The American Diabetes Association has some recommendations! They suggest doing as much physical activity as possible. This does not have to cost a lot of money, or even take that much time. Something as simple as walking, taking the stairs instead of an escalator, and moving about periodically throughout the day can have huge health benefits. They also recommend aerobic exercise like brisk walking, dancing, swimming, and weightlifting to name a few. Staying flexible can not only help you stay fit, but help you regroup and become more mentally stimulated. You can do this by simply stretching a couple of times a day.
We offer several attractions to help you stay fit such as our roller skating rink, indoor fields, fun zone, and inflatables, it is easy and more importantly fun to get plenty of exercise! With 86 million Americans having prediabetes, we hope to be a resource to prevent the growth of this epidemic and keep America healthy and fit.
